We just received a mail by our old volcano friend Ahti Heikkilä from Finland (do you remember his Zafferana photos?).
He wrote:
“Hello Davide,
How are You? I hope very well!
So, we have a winter like in old time!!! Today it was in the morning minus 41,7 grader Celsius and snow about 50 - 60 cm and tomorrow it is coming a very bad storm, hevy wind, minus 20 Celsius and more snow about 20 cm !!!!!!!!!
BUT THE BIGGEST NEWS IS THAT MY DAUGHTER KATRI GOT A BOY
”
Welcome to out little new friend from Finland and best wishes to him and his family!
About Etna we had a very warm week with very strong Sirocco wind.
Due to wind yesterday, this night and this morning seemed perfect days to make a jump and land in Greece (paragliding a bit…). We are sorry but it seems it will be fourth Sunday in which it will be impossible to ski but even just to breath, outside. We hope in March.
Weather is perfect on Etna; temperatures are high and they should increase.
Friday they will be at their peak but then they should drop down again on Saturday (more than 10 degreeses lost in 24 hours!).
On Sunday forecasts expect a ‘perfect day’ with no wind, blue sky, no precipitations or any viability problem. Let’s hope.

A romantic Valentine’s Day to you all.
As forecasted this night it was heavy snowing. Road has been blocked by Authority.
They can arrive on Etna Sud just our hotel guests (under our responsability) and Rifugio Sapienza ones.
Cable car is stopped but should be fully operative tomorrow thanks to good weather (we hope!).
…yes, as you can see our ground floor is buried.
UPDATE: finally good weather come. I publish a latest photo with blue sky and snow on road to hotel.

Looking at this morning “La Sicilia” newspaper people could read in first page, without commas or full stops
on Etna
saved
three tourists
Avalanches
six died”
Six persons died in north Italy (Piemonte and Veneto), yes it’s true and we are sorry but surely this didn’t happen on subject of title, Etna.
This morning people called us alarmed by these avalanches.
If there is something doesn’t happen on Etna those are avalanches for many reasons.
If there is something doesn’t need to Etna are “titles of effect” which create misunderstanding and fear.

Forecasts expect a long winter which should last until April.
March generally is month richer of snow. This year we expect it could be richer than usual.
We wish to make happy all people didn’t find place in February week-ends (we are almost full on every Friday and Saturday) offering special tariffs for late March.
On March 19th-21st week-end, Friday-Sunday, two nights we will apply a 15% discount. This means that a four persons family, two adults and two children under 12 will pay € 187,00 instead of € 220,00 in half board per night on those dates.
A great occasion to enjoy with more snow than in February (and we already are plenty of snow) paying much less for same services.

Few months ago EtnaSci.it and Hotel Corsaro decided to cooperate to gift Etna lovers a new webcam.
In today’s wonderful evening two EtnaSci.it webcams has been placed on Hotel Corsaro’s roof.
Weather was perfect with a blue sky upon us and a carpet of snows far to horizon in every direction.
I was glad to take a photo of webcams first shoots and to publish them here.
Both webcams aren’t still connected to internet so you will not find them active.
We hope next week to make this last step.
Luckly webcams also see the top part of Sud-Est crater. They will be also useful in summer time and during eruptions on our side.
